Posted on August 24, 2023January 20, 2024 By allsarkari-naukri

Introduction

Dairy farming is not only a lucrative business but also a way for farmers to diversify their income alongside traditional agriculture. With the rising demand for milk and dairy products in the market, the government is encouraging farmers and livestock owners to open dairy farms by providing substantial subsidies. In this article, we will discuss the Dairy Farm Scheme introduced by the state government, the amount of subsidy available, and the application process.

What is the Dairy Farm Scheme?

The Dairy Farm Scheme is an initiative by the government to promote the rearing of indigenous cows. Under this scheme, farmers and livestock owners are eligible for subsidies ranging from 40% to 75%. The primary objective of this scheme is to increase milk production and conserve indigenous cows.

Subsidy for Dairy Farming

Farmers and livestock owners who wish to open dairy farms can avail subsidies ranging from 40% to 75%. Individuals belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and backward classes are eligible for a subsidy of up to 75%. General category farmers and livestock owners can receive a subsidy of up to 50% of the cost. Furthermore, those opening dairy farms with 15 to 20 cows are eligible for a 40% subsidy.

Subsidy Amount for Different Livestock

The amount of subsidy for a dairy farm depends on the number of cows being reared. For individuals starting a dairy farm with indigenous cows, the cost will be approximately INR 2,42,000. Scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and extremely backward class livestock owners will receive a subsidy of INR 1,81,500. Livestock owners from other categories will receive a subsidy of INR 1,21,000.

If a dairy farm is started with four indigenous cows, the estimated cost will be around INR 5,20,000. Under this scenario, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and extremely backward class livestock owners will receive a subsidy of INR 3,90,000. Livestock owners from other categories will receive a subsidy of INR 2,60,000.

Eligibility for the Scheme

The Dairy Farm Scheme primarily targets small and marginal farmers, farmers from border areas, and those living below the poverty line. Priority will be given to trained applicants, members of dairy cooperatives, and self-help groups involved in livelihood activities.
